Drive to Texas

We got to San Antonio allright. We had a perfect travel day. Cloudy skies, not much traffic. We stopped several times and traveled our 805 miles in 14 hours.

We stopped at the first rest stop in Texas, close to Orange. They have a big board walk over a swamp area. We saw a lot of wild life. Alligator Snapping turtles, regular turtles, one big ugly frog and snakes. It was a nice break from sitting in the car forever.

This rest stop had the coolest big Texas star and a Texas shaped cutout there. Lucas slit down that star form several times. I have great pictures of that.

I love love love these pictures! I love rest stop pictures. Children love to get out of the car! They always seem ready to smile and run around! I am glad the 14 hours weren’t too horrible! Safe and sound!

I know this rest stop! The “swamp” area is called the “Blue Elbow Swamp”, and it is not too far from the Texas/Louisiana border, right? I went on a cruise a few years ago (2001) and we drove home through Texas and also stopped at this same place. I recognized your pictures. I have some of the same ones of the giant Texas star. It was a really neat place to get to have a rest.

Hi Beate,

Glad to hear you got here safely. I am sure you are very busy and time flies when you’re visiting family. I would love to see you if you have a chance. Maybe we can meet for lunch and I can get some of the other girls to join us. I know everyone would love to see you. I also understand if you can’t do it. Hope you have a good stay and have a safe trip back.
