Simple Basket tutorial

square-basket-supplies.jpg

Supplies:

  • Square piece of cardstock that can be divided into three, e.g. 12″, 9″ , 6″ square. (I used a turquoise 8 1/4″ square)

  • Sticky Tape

  • Paper cutter with cutting and scoring blade

  • Strip of cardstock for handle (I used 1″ x 12″ strip of whisper white cardstock)

  • Stamps or wheel to decorate the basket

Step one:

Score your cardstock into nine equal squares. For my 8 1/4″ square I scored at 2 3/4″ and 5 1/2″ both horizontally and vertically.

For 6″ square score at 2″ and 4″. For 9″ square score at 3″ and 6″ and for 12″ square score at 4″ and 8″.

Step two:

Cut the two scored lines to the first horizontal score on two opposing sides.

(For a better picture that shows the whole cardstock after the cuts, check the picture for step seven.)

Step three:

Decorate your cardstock. I used the Petals Jumbo wheel from the Stampin’ Up! Spring mini catalog and wheeled in white on the turquoise cardstock.

Step four (optional):

Corner round your edges.

Step five:

Add some sticky strip on both ends of your basket handle.

Step six:

Tape one end of your basket handle to one center square of the basket that has the two cuts one each side. Tape the handle on the outside section of the basket. It will be covered later by the two sides next to it.

Step seven:

Turn your cardstock over so you see the basket inside (unstamped side). Add strips of sticky tape as shown. Don’t have the sticky tape go all the way to the scored line. That might show when you fold the sides in to make the basket shape.

Step eight:

Fold both sides over your center square and tape them down over your basket handle.

Step Nine:

Tape the second end of your basket handle on the opposite square on the basket.

Step ten:

Again fold both the left and the right square over the middle square, covering the basket handle.

Finish your basket.

I stamped again!!!!

I missed stamping! This morning I visited Amy Westerman’s blog to check out her newest Sunday’s Sketch. I love Amy’s blog and her sketches are a wonderful inspiration.

I got out two pieces of My Mind’s Eye patterned paper I bought just three days ago in San Antonio. The paper “line” (is that what you call it?) is called Magnolia and it is sooooooo beautiful!  I rock n’ rolled the big flower from Looks Like Spring in chocolate chip and added more chocolate chip color on the side of the flower petals with my chocolate chip marker. I then stamped it on the turquoise/lime paper and cut it out.  The flower is layered on a 2 1/4″ pumpkin pie cardstock square. I had dragged it over my Ruby Red classic ink pad several times to make it more like that gorgeous background paper.

The green vertical strip is the backside of the turquoise paper with the lime polka dots. It is slightly patterned as well. It’s just hard to see in this photo.

The saying is from Edgy Eloquence. I so hope that it will be in the next big catalog. I love those sayings!

While Jenn and I were in the store drooling over the paper we called Joy from Eclectic Paperie and told her that she HAS TO start carrying My Mind’s Eye paper. It’s just THAT pretty.

Well….overflowing mailbox and goodies from Eclectic Paperie….(wait for my next post! LOL). It’s good to be back in my own house with all of my STUFF!!!!

And the 75,000 blog candy goes to….

Jessica (jessrose21) Says: How exciting, Beate! It’s so nice of you to share with us as you celebrate. Thanks! I was reading through the comments and I agree with Renee who suggested a tutorial on design elements. It’s always interesting to get artists’ interpretations and tips on that.

Her wish is a tough one….there is really no method on how I put my cards together. LOL

Congratulations Jessica. And thank you all for commenting and giving me ideas on what tutorials you are looking for. I will try to write a Easter basket tutorial today…just because Easter is next week. Next will be the explosion box tutorial.

A lot of you have asked for a watercoloring tutorial. Hmm….did you ever look at my cards? LOL….that is one element I totally struggle with. But Asela Hopkins, Debbie Olson and Cindy Lyles have written amazing tutorials about that topic. Check them out. Those girls are amazing at watercoloring. Me…I will have to practise a lot more!

I did write a tutorial on watercoloring with crayons for splitcoaststampers. I will practise and write another for this blog soon.

Hugs and smiles
