Good morning! Yesterday we found out that we are expecting…..little baby birds that is! Last month I added some hanging plants to our house front. I loved the color of the the flowers and that it has hanging vines. It looked so cool and was so cheap, I had to buy three. We have two hanging in the front of our house now, and one in the back .

Well….last week, I noticed birds flying to and from the plant on the left.  Yesterday I lifted up Rebecca to check if they was a nest in there. She was so excited not only to see a nest, but eggs as well. While Momma bird was out, I took some quick pictures of it.

The vines are all around so it was hard to get a clear shot. This is the best I could get. I stood on the chair, but I was still too low. I had to lift up the camera and take a bunch of “blind” shots to get this pictures.

We are so excited!!!! When you look at our (now living room) window, you can see Momma bird sitting on the eggs. I have to clean the window before getting a shot of that. But I don’t want to disturb Momma bird any more then neccessary. That’s a valid excuse not to clean the window, right?

  1. ok, you just gave me heart failure….not nice!!!! We always have birds that make nests under our deck and I know they’ve been at it this spring too! When they do that, we can look through the cracks in the deck boards and watch the nest. It’s really fun to do when they’ve hatched! I love the picture you took of the eggs….it’s really a cool pic, sort of like we’re spying on something we really shouldn’t be, peeking around the bushes! Thanks for sharing!

  2. Beate!
What a great idea to take pictures of the nest! We have a sparrow that made a nest on top of the wreath on my front door!!! The father was hanging around yesterday and I got a picture of him sitting on top of a small wooden bird we have hanging off our porch. Now will have to go take one of the nest!!!

  6. Aw shucks, I thought you were having a baby!!! (I love babies)…but the baby birds will be a lot less work! hehe
Thanks for the great pictures, when we lived in GA the birds would always nest in my hanging planters on the front porch! They are so fun to watch. . .

  7. I don’t suppose the angle is right to set up a video camera in your window? or a webcam? That way you could check on the eggs without bothering momma bird… oh, but then you would have to clean the window so just forget I even suggested that!

I can’t wait to see the birth announcement you make when the babies arrive!

  8. You really had me there~LOL!!! U are fresh! We get nests in our garden shed ever since my hubby broke the door. It is good though, up high and safe from our cats.

I bet Rebecca is going to be super excited when there are babies in there chiping. so fun

  9. Oh, this is exciting! I’d love to have this in my garden! Be sure and keep us posted as to the family’s progress!

  10. Oh how fun!! I’m jealous… I’ve always wished them birdies would stop on by (I hang up some food), but I don’t think I have a welcoming home such as yours – and with such pretty colors too!! Mines is plain ol’ grey… tee hee… pretty eggs, huh?! Beautiful how nature works – thanks for sharing… even at taking pictures you are an expert.

  11. Cute story, but I have to say, I love that chair and your house is so pretty with all the flowers.

  12. Chirp! Chirp! That’s what you’ll be hearing soon. We had a nest a few years under our deck with little bald babies in it going chirp chirp all day. Enjoy! Dottie K

  13. Good for you! We had a nest in the house we’re building and now the babies have flown the coup, so to speak. We need to get a door up before we have another one in the house.

  14. Oh, I thought for a minute that we’d have something BIG in common for 9 months! LOL What a sweet picture! And your place looks BEAUTIFUL!!!!

  15. IT must be Spring! My son found a baby bunny laying on the patio yesterday! The mother must have abandoned it! So now we are playing nurse and mother to this tiny little guy! Would you believe the nature center told us they would not take a bunny? What could I do just let it die? Of course I keep trying to tell my son that this bunny has a slim chance of survival! We’ll see what happens!

  16. How nice it will be for you to watch these babies! Thank you for sharing with awesome pictures.

  17. You clean windows?? Is that what I’m supposed to be doing over here? I see my neighbors with their buckets and squeegies and wondered what all that was about! 😉 I swear, all my German neighbors must think we Americans are the WORST housekeepers!!

Can’t wait to see what pictures you get when the eggs hatch!! So exciting to have new little ones around.

Your correct no need to clean the window yet. LOL & TFS.

  21. Awww! Aren’t you just a proud surrogate Momma to be! Can’t wait to see those baby birds!!! Thanks for sharing!

  22. I got so excited. Especially after looking at Julie’s blog with the new baby. Then I just had to laugh out loud. Yes, baby birds are way fun too! And they don’t talk back (hmmm, actually, I have a few around here that DO! Oh well.) Congrats. It is so much fun to watch them. janet in nc
