Here is one of my samples for this weekend’s sketch challenge.

Over the last few days “dry embossing with the Crop-a-dile” was discussed on my yahoo group. Since I just got my Crop-a-dile and had never used it at ALL before, that sounded very intriguging to me. I decided to try it out on this card.

The card base is a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Soft Sky Cardstock folded in half. The printed paper measures 2 1/2″ x 4″ and is from the Fall Flower Designer Paper pack. I wrapped Blue Bayou double stitched ribbon around the top and adhered it to the card base.

The Scallop is punched from Chocolate chip cardstock with the new Scallop circle punch Stampin’ Up! carries now. It’s backordered until September, since it had some quality issues. Lucky for me my downline Stephanie got one that works and came over to stamp with me.

The center of the scallop is a 1 3/8″ Shimmery White circle. I stamped the flower stamp in Soft Sky on it and the greeting in chocolate chip. I love the script of the Sayings in the new Stem Silhouettes Holiday Mini set. I also love the images in the set. I know I will use this set a lot more. It’s just so pretty.

For the main image,  I cut a 2″ x 3″ piece of Shimmery White, added a dotted border with All in a Row and Chocolate Chip ink, and stamped the image in Blue Bayou in it’s center. I added Dazzling Diamond Glitter on the flower part with the Sakura Quickie Glue (a wonderful glue for thin spots like those flower tops), since Jenn ragged my snowman card yesterday, saying it needed glitter or it looked naked. Well…no naked flowers today! LOL

The photo corner is the smaller one you get when you use Stampin’ Up!’s Photo corner punch. Another new obsession of mine. Those corners just step your card up a notch. I punched my corner out of Old Olive cardstock, stamped the Linen background over it and finished it off by adding Not Quite Navy Brads.

The main image is layered on a 2 1/4″x 3 1/4″ piece of Blue Bayou cardstock which is layered on a 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ piece of chocolate chip. I adhered it with dimensionals to the card base.

Last, I took my Crop-a-dile, slit it in from the top of the card with settings on A1, and added some dry embossed circles over the patterned paper. I really like the look it gives. That could definitely lead to another obsession for me. LOL

Have a wonderful day! Hugs and smiles

  33. That’s so funny…I JUST got home from a Stampin Up gathering and we did a Christmas card using that dry embossing technique with the Crop-a-dile! I was so happy to discover a new way to use it! Great sketch by the way! The flowers are so pretty with the DD on them!

  35. Beautiful card, great sketch, Beate — sure wish I could find enough stamping stuff this weekend to try it! Maybe by next weekend . . . 😀

  36. Beate,
LOVE your stuff!! All of your cards are just amazing! Wish I lived nearby and could come to your stamp camps!!! Unfortunately the trip from Spain is a little too far, I think! LOVE the idea of dry embossing with my CAD… I didn’t bring any of my embossing stuff (dry or wet) with me when we moved here…just couldn’t fit it in my suitcase! SO, I’m THRILLED to have a way to emboss, if only a little bit! I’m off to try it now! Thanks for all of your inspiration!!

  37. P.S. I’d love to know which yahoo group you wrote about… Is it for anyone, or just demos? TIA!
