Yesterday’s Technique lover challenge Totally IrResistable asked to combine Versamark Resist with Embossing Resist. I hadn’t done any resist cards in a long time.

After doing all my Monday chores (cleaning all bed spreads, dusting, vaccuming, moping, bathrooms…)I got to play. I asked Jenn what I should use and she told me Season of Joy and gave me this color combo: Tempting Turquoise, Rose Red and Chocolate Chip. I asked if I could add Wild Wasabi and the basics for the card were settled.

season-of-joy-stepped-up-tu.jpg

The card base is a 5 1/4″ x 10 1/2″ piece of Rose Red cardstock, folded in half and sponged around the edges. Next is a 5″ piece of Chocolate Chip cardstock, sponged around the edges and stamped with the swirl and the tiny flower from Season of Joy.

Next is a 2 1/4″ x 4 3/4″ piece of Apple Cider paper with a small strip of white cardstock added.

For the main image I cut a piece of glossy cardstock 2 5/8″ x 3″ and stamped the Christmas tree with Versamark in the middle of the cardstock. I embossed it with clear embossing powder. Next I stamped the big word background from the same set in Versamark over the tree. I dried it with my heat gun.

Then I brayered Turquoise over the entire piece of cardstock. I rubbed a paper towel over the image, to take off the extra ink. I added the dotted border with Chocolate Chip ink and All in a Row (You know I have to use it, right?) I layered the cardstock on a sponged piece of Chocolate Chip cardstock and piece of sponged Rose Red cardstock.

For the accent I stamped the Poinsetta from Season of Joy in Rose Red and the small flower in Chocolate Chip on Shimmery White cardstock and cut both out. I layered them over a swirl stamped and sponged piece of 1 1/4″ circle of Wild Wasabi and a 1 3/8″ sponged Rose Red circle. I topped the flower off with a small turquoise circle jewel brad from the Ice collection.

It still looked too bare and I needed to add a little zing to it.  I punched out small Rose Red flowers with the Three for you Punch and sponged the edges in the same color.  The flowers were taped to the right side of the main image and silver brads were added.

I heated the image again, poured Dazzling Diamond glitter over it and heated it again. I outline my Poinsetta with my Sakura glue pen and added glitter to that as well.

Last I added a sponged Photo corner with three silver brads.

Although I would have never added Turquoise to the mix, I like the combo now.

Yesterday’s Featured Stamper on SCS was Carolyn, aka. Cammie! I love her work. When you have a minute, check out her gorgeous gallery.

Carolyn has several gate fold cards in her gallery that she closed with a card band. I decided to case that design.

broncu-buster-cammie-style.jpg

I am sure you aren’t shocked when I tell you that I made a square gatefold, instead of the rectangle ones Carolyn made. LOL

And you are probably aren’t surprised about the cardbase color either. Yep….Chocolate chip.

I took my 5 1/4″ piece of Chocolate Chip cardstock and scored it at 2 5/8″ and 7 7/8″. I sponged all the edges with chocolate chip.

For the layers on my two flaps I took two 2 3/8″ x 5″ pieces of Sage Shadow and stamped the outer part with the Paisley from Wanted in Chocolate Chip. Then I sponged around the edges, distressed the sides with the cutter kit and taped them down.

Next were two  2 1/8″ x 4 3/4″ pieces of Outlaw designer paper. I sponged the edges of the striped paper just a tad with chocolate chip and then the rest of the paper a bit with Creamy Caramel. I distressed the edges again, taped the paper down and added faux stitching with the All in a Row Argyle stamp.

For the main image I stamped the Cowboy from Bronc Buster in Chocolate Chip craft ink  on a 3″ x 3 1/4″ piece of Natural Ivory cardstock and then embossed him with the retired chocolate embossing powder (Earth Element Embossing powder stack). I inked up the Paisley from Wanted in Creamy caramel, stamped it off once and then stamped it over the image. I repeated it all over the main panel. Next the edges of the cardstock were distressed with the cutter kit, sponged first with creamy caramel, then with Really Rust and last with Chocolate Chip. I added a bit of Creamy Caramel sponging to the entire piece to age it.

The photo corner was punched out of Really Rust cardstock with the Photo corner punch. I stamped the medaillon from Wanted over it, sponged it first with Really Rust, then with Chocolate chip and adhered it to the top right corner.

The next two layers are made with Sage Shadow and Really Rust cardstock. Each layer is a 1/4″ bigger then the last. The Sage shadow cardstock was stamped and sponged like the panels for the gate folds. The Really Rust cardstock was sponged with Really Rust and Chocolate chip. Both layers were distressed.

I taped all three layers together, added three Pewter brads from the vintage brads to the corner and flipped over the top right corner of the ivory layer.

I was asked how I keep my brads in such a staight line. I use my Paper piercing template from stamping up for all brad placements. It’s easy and it will keep them straight and in the right distance between each other. Remember, I am German. I like ORDER! LOL

bronc-buster-cammie-inside.jpg

For the card band I scored a  1 1/2″ x 11″ piece of Really Rust cardstock strip at 5 3/8″  and 10 3/4″.

I taped it shut on the 1/4″ scored end, distressed the edges and sponged it first with Really Rust, then with Chocolate Chip.

The next layer was a 1 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of sponged and distressed chocolate chip strip.

The last layer was a 1″ x 5 1/4″ strip of Natural Ivory cardstock. It was stamped with Creamy Caramel and the Paisley stamp, then sponged with Creamy Caramel and the edges with Chocolate Chip. I stamped the star/swirl image in chocolate chip far to the left. I stamped another one of those image on a scrap piece of Ivory cardstock cut out the star and then sponged it with Really Rust and Chocolate Chip. That was layered on top of my image on the band.

All three layers were taped together and a Pewter brad was added in the center of the star.

On the inside I stamped the Medaillon and Paisley from Wanted in chocolate chip on the flaps. For the center I cut a 5″ square of Natural Ivory cardstock, sponged and stamped it to match the rest of the card. I also added the bigger Really Rust photo corner. It was sponged and stamped just like his little brother on the main image.

After all that sponging, which took quite a while, my finger tips were DARK. I really enjoyed making this card and like how it turned out. Sorry this entry was like…FOREVER long!

Hugs and smiles

I got  a wonderful RAK in the mail on Saturday.

rak-kelly-hornsby.jpg

Kelly Hornsby sent me this beautiful card. I absolutely love it. She is sending me back to Starlitstudio. That must be May Arts ribbon. It’s gorgeous and I don’t own it yet. That has to be rectified. LOL

Thank you Kelly! This is amazing!!!

Here is another card made for the sketch this weekend, as well as the Color Challenge from last Tuesday on SCS.

wild-about-you-cc128-wsc16.jpg

I love how this came out. I started out making it a baby card, but then I changed it to one for a girlfriend. Now that my So many Sayings are unmounted, it is becoming one of my favorite sets.

If I only had the courage to cut up my Happiness set like that. Maybe next weeks. Baby steps. I feel like I am mutilating the stamps when I keep them unmounted.

The card base is a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Groovy Guava cardstock, layered with a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Basic black cardstock and a 3 3/4″ x 5″ piece of Soft Sky Prints Designer paper. The corner of the black cardstock and the designer paper were punched with ticket corner punch.

The black photo corner was punched out with the Photo corner punch and silver brads were added. Then I doodled a border all around the Soft Sky Paper.

I punched two circles with my 1 1/4″ circle punch out of Shimmery white cardstock. I used the dotted background stamp from the Three For You Punch Kit in Groovy Guava to add the pattern and layered it on 1 3/8″ black circles. I layered those on a Groovy Guava scallop circle and a regular circle out of the same color. Last I doodled a border matching the border on the designer paper on the circles.

For my horizontal strips, I took a 1 1/4″ x 3 3/4″ piece of Basic Black cardstock. I added the scallop border with my corner rounder punch and punched out the holes with my Crop-a-dile. On top of that I layered a 1″ x 3 3/4″ strip of shimmery white and last a strip of ribbon from the Sherbert Ribbon Originals pack.

I stamped the giraffe from Wild About You on 1 7/8″ x 3″ piece of Shimmery White cardstock in Groovy Guava and outlined it with my black 03Micron pen. Micron pens are my favorite to doodle with. I punched the corners with the ticket corner punch and doodled a border around the outer edges of the image. The next layer was a 2 1/8″ x 3 1/4″ piece of Basic Black cardstock. I added silver brads in each corner, punched a slot with the horizontal slot punch and added Groovy Guava double stitched ribbon to the upper ride side.

The saying from So Many Sayings was stamped in black on Shimmery White cardstock, punched out with the small oval punch and topped with a small oval frame from the Pewter Hodgepodge Hardware kit.

Last I punched Groovy Guava and Soft Sky flowers with my Three For You Punch, layered them on my circles and topped them off with black vintage brads.

When Lucas was a year old, we moved from Virginia to Germany. I was excited to spend three years back in my home country. It was especially sweet because half a year before we got this assignment my Dad had been diagnosed with a certain form of Leukaemia. We knew he would only have three years to live. I felt so blessed that we got to move back “home”, so he could see my boys grow up a little.

fun-fast-notes-lucas-1997.jpg

We lived in the South of Germany, about one hour away from Stuttgart. One clear days we could see the mountains from the Schwaebische Alb from our kitchen window.

This picture makes me smile big time. Lucas was just so darn cute!  The picture was taken in a field at a deer park we used to go visit. It was only 20 minutes from our house. This saying from the Stem Sayings was absolutely perfect of this 6″ x 6″ page.

The bird from Fun & Fast Notes was stamped on Whisper White cardstock, colored with classic pads and aqua painter, cut out and mounted on a round metal edged tag.

The designer paper is from the retired Spring Flower pack. I had brushed white craft ink reinker  on the paper with my large watercolor brush, let it dry and then stamped the saying over it to make it more visible.

Today’s inspiration challenge was great for me. I love the colors in the image.

ic90_poppyninepatch_bydonli-leger_artcom_12335486a.jpg

I just started participating in the inspiration challenges last week. Here is what I do. I write down the colors that are in it, and images that I have and could use. For this one I wrote down: So Saffron, More Mustard, Ruby Red, Really Rust, More Mustard, Always Artchoke and Chocolate, for images leaves or Poppies.

I went through my stamps and decided to use the Level 1 hostess set: Oh So Lovely. It has a beautiful poppy image in it.

I inked up the background stamp in More Mustard, stamped it off once before stamping it on Shimmery White cardstock. I repeated this two more times and lined them up next to each other. No, didn’t use the Stamp-A-Majic. I am usually too lazy for that and just eyeball.

Next I stamped the Poppy image in Brown Stazon over the background and colored it in with Classic ink pads (Ruby Red, More Mustard, Mellow Moss and Always Aritchoke) and Aqua Painter.  I cut the image into a 3 /4 circle with my Coluzzle and sponged the edges with More Mustard, Really Rust and stippled just a touch of chocolate chip on the edges. Then I layered it on Chocolate chip with the long retired Coluzzle Companion set. I cut out the next big circle out of Shimmery white and made it into a scallop circle with my corner rounder.

oh-so-lovely-ic90-half-circ.jpg

After I made my main image, I pulled out my cardstock to decide on the rest of the card.

I finally settled on a 4 1/4″ x 8 1/2″ piece of Always Artichoke as my card base (another square card, who would have known. LOL).

I stamped the front with Linen in Always Artichoke and sponged the edges in the same color for more depth.

I stamped a 2 1/4″ wide strip of Ruby Red first with Linen, then with the swirl from Baroque Motifs in Ruby Red and sponged the edges as well. On the top part, I added a small strip of chocolate chip cardstock and added my Faux Stitching with All in a Row.

Once I had the basic elements done for my card it was time to PUNCH IT UP A NOTCH:

The main image still looked too blah. I seem to need some kind of border on my main panels lately. Since All in a Row Stitching would be a little tough on the circle, I settled for paper piercing. then I added a piece of Antique Brass Hodgepodge Hardware with Fairy Tale Ribbon Original to add a splash of yellow and three antique brass brads next to that.

Underneath the Ruby Red strip, I paper pierced a row to tie in the paper piercing in the circle.

I pulled out my unmounted So many Sayings and decided to make this my Anniversary card for Rick. Our anniversary isn’t until October, but hey…this will be the first time I don’t have to stamp the card the night before! SWEET!

I stamped absolute bliss over the flower stem, since it still needed something and another piece of ribbon just didn’t look right. Then I punched out a small oval with our small oval punch, stamped the background stamp from Oh, so Lovely in More Mustard in second generation over it, sponged the edges and added You and Me in chocolate chip over it.

I taped it to the ruby red cardstock and topped it with a small oval frame from the Antique Brass Hodgepodge Hardware.

Do you own a Bind It All (BIA) and you haven’t used it yet? Are you thinking about purchasing a BIA and you aren’t sure if you would like it?

I enjoy making these little Address books. They aren’t hard and don’t cost much once you have the BIA.

Today’s Limited Supply Challenge was a long list of what to do and not. Usually those are too restricting for me, but I have to keep my challenge streak going. Today is the 8th challenge in a row. I know it’s silly, but I am excited about that.

Here is what you could use:

1.) one or two neglegted stamp sets

2.) Old Sketch Challenge

3.) Old Color Challenge

4.) one or two embellishment, especially products that you have been hoarding

5.) Any Tools

I kinda knew right away I wanted to use the Turtle from Silly Sealife. It took me a while to settle on an older sketch. Finally I picked SC86:

Next I was looking for the color combo. It took longer then the sketch, since I was determined to use the Wintergreen Designer paper. I finally found one. You might have heard my happy shout all the way to whereever you live. I picked CC86: Always Artichoke, Creamy Caramel and Sage Shadow

silly-sealife-lsc130-cc73-s.jpg

I started my card with a  5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ piece of Creamy Caramel Cardstock.  Next followed a 3 3/4″ x 4 1/2″ piece of Always Artchoke cardstock that was topped with a 3 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ piece of Wintergreen Designer paper. I stamped the Faux Stitching with my All in a Row Argyle stamp. That stamp is definitely NOT neglected by me. LOL. The Chocolate Chip layer measures 2 5/8″ x 4 1/4″ and the Wintergreen designer paper that tops it 2 3/8″ x 4″.

For accents I used the medium size twill, frayed the bottom and secured it with two Jumbo Brass Eyelets.

The main image is stamped with Brown Stazon on a 1 3/4″ x 1 7/8″ Shimmery White cardstock and layered on a 1/4″ bigger  piece of Chocolate Chip cardstock. Again I used the Argyle stamp for my Faux Stitching. Then I colored in the image with Creamy Caramel, Sage Shadow, Always Artichoke and Chocolate Chip Watercolor crayons and aqua painter. I hadn’t watercolored with them for so long, I forgot that I really like to do that!. Last I added one more layer of Creamy Caramel underneath and adhered it to the main card with dimensionals.

The saying is from the Hostess Level 1 set: So many Sayings. I had it unmounted just sitting here for a while. I knew I would never use it if I mounted it. Then I saw Charmaine to use EZ Mount with it (gasp). I never unmount SU stamps, but boy….does that ever work for this set. So I put a brave face on, pulled the rubber from the foam, added EZ mount behind it and cut it out.

so-many-sayings-unmounted.jpg

I already used it on two cards now. The second one is my favorite card I made with this weekend’s sketch challenge. I will post it tomorrow!

Have a great day! Hugs and smiles

….well, if you count Crazy Frank, it’s card sample #2 already!

I had a blast making this card. I am still a bit trigger happy with the ticket corner punch and the hardware….but I like how it turned out. The triple layer flower head is my favorite part, I think.

true-friend-multi-layers-ws.jpg

My card base is a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Really Rust cardstock folded in half, followed by a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Wild Wasabi and a 3 3/4″ x 5″ piece of Chocolate Chip. On both layers I punched each corner with the ticket corner punch.

The third layer is pieced together with two pieces of the Apple Cider Designer paper from the Holiday Mini catalog.

For the circular accents in the sketch I used a Chocolate Chip and a River Rock punchout made with the Scallop Circle punch.  I sponged the River Rock scallop circle and used my paper piercing tool to add small holes in each scallop. Next I  added a 1 3/8″ Chocolate Chip circle. Then I stamped the flower stamp from the True Friend set in chocolate chip and punched it out withthe 1 1/4″ circle punch. Next I stamped the same image in Really Rust, cut out the flower and attached it with a Aged Copper Brad.

The Chocolate Chip scallop circle was topped with a 1 3/8″ River Rock Circle, stamped with the triple flower image in River Rock and paper pierced.

The horizontal layers are a 1 1/4″ x 3 3/4″ piece of Wild Wasabi, a 1″ x 3 3/4″ piece of Chocolate chip and medium size twill to wich I added a ribbon buckle from the Antique BrassHodgepodge Hardware.

The center image layers measure 2 1/4″ x 3 1/2″ for the Wild Wasabi, 2″ x 3 1/4″ for the Chocolate chip and 1 3/4″ x 3″ for the Very Vanilla cardstock. The Chocolate Chip and Very Vanilla layers had all four corners punched with the ticket corner punch.

I stamped the Very Vanilla cardstock with the triple flower in River Rock ink second generation (I inked the image, stamped off on a piece of scrap paper and then stamped on the cardstock) and sponged the edges. Then I stamped the big flower in Wild Wasabi. I added the dotted border with All in a Row and Chocolate Chip ink (You know I HAD to use it on my card somewhere).

Next I stamped the stem with leaves again in Wild Wasabi on Very Vanilla cardstock and cut out the leaves.  I stamped the flower head twice in Chocolate Chip, once in Really Rust. I cut all around one of the Chocolate Chip flowers. The Really Rust flower I cut just inside the dotted lines. The last Chocolate Flower I cut just the inside flower part out. I layered all three together and topped it off with another Aged Copper Brad.

Small Twill was wrapped around the Very Vanilla/Chocolate Chip layers and a piece of the Ribbon Originals Jersey tied on. It the center sits a Antique Brass Paper Clip. I added a Antique Brass Brad in each corner of the Wild Wasabi layer.

The Saying is from True Friend as well. I just inked up the Friend part with my Chocolate Chip ink spot and stamped it on Very Vanilla. I sponged River Rock ink on the edges and added an oval frame from the Antique Brass Hodgepodge Hardware over it.
