Color Challenge: Groovy Artichoke

Today’s Color Challenge was to use Groovy Guava and Always Artichoke. I really like those two colors together (well…those with chocolate Chip of course. LOL).

Here is my simple and quick card. After I made this one for the challenge, I made it ten more times.

I need some cards for downline and customers.

I like how it came out, even if it’s a simple one.

The card base is a 4 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ piece of Always Artichoke folded down to 4 1/4″ x 4 1/2″. Why such a strange size? Well, since you asked….this card started out as a regular 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card. I just kept cutting it shorter and shorter. It didn’t look right that long. I just can’t help myself…..But at least it’s not a square. LOL

I rounded the outer corners with the corner rounder. After making the card I noticed that I had the grabbed the retired one. That’s what you get when you move your whole stamp room into another room and everything is cleaned up! That corner rounder needs to stay on my table!

The Confetti White layer measures 3″ x 4 1/8″, the Groovy Guava Prints Designer paper is a 1/4″ smaller. I stamped a swirl from Priceless in Groovy Guava on the bottom left corner and added a small chocolate chip photo corner over it. Next I stamped the sentiment Priceless in Chocolate Chip to  the bottom right.

For the center image I stamped the flower stamp twice on Confetti White cardstock, one in Chocolate Chip and one in Always Artichoke. I cut the Artichoke flower out and punched out the Chocolate one with the 1 1/4″ circle punch. I taped the Artichoke flower on to the chocolate one, layered the Confetti White circle first on a 1 3/8″ Groovy Guava circle, then on a Chocolate Chip Scallop circle and added a Pewter brad in the flower center.

Before I adhered the image with dimensionals, I punched a slot with the Horizontal Slot punch and ran Groovy Guava Double Stitched ribbon through it.

Technique Lover Challenge: Surprise Pop Up card

Beth picked the Surprise Pop Up card as our weekly Technique Lover challenge. I haven’t made one of those in ages.

I stamped early yesterday morning. Rick and I moved my stamp room back in the room it was in first, after having it in the living room for about 6 month. It was just too loud in the center of the house. The kids were driving me gaga.

We worked hard until the afternoon. Then we kept on working on Lucas and Rebeccas room. Let’s just say I am super tired right now (typing it up in the evening for tomorrow’s post)

I knew I wanted to use Wanted as my main set this time. Usually I mix it with the Bronc Buster set and have the main focus on the cowboy. Not this time.

I also knew that I wanted to put the pop up part on a full card. Usually I just stick it on a 1/4 piece of cardstock and I don’t like that too much. So I started with a 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ piece of chocolate chip cardstock, sponged the edges and set it aside.

I stamped a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Sage Shadow cardstock with the Medaillon, the Paisley and the Star stamp all over, sponged the entire piece with Sage Shadow and then the edges with Chocolate Chip ink.

Next I cut a 2 1/4″ x 4″ piece of striped Outlaw Designer paper, sponged all around softly with Chocolate Chip and taped it down my Sage Shadow cardstock. I cut a 3/4″ frame on the side and border and scored the top at 3/4″ as well. Then I scored 1/4″ from the bottom of the flap and then in the middle of the flap.

I cut 2 small pieces (3/8″ x 3/4″) of Really Rust, sponged the edges and taped them over the designer paper.

My Really Rust inside tag that pulls the flap up measures 3 1/4″ x 4 1/2″ and was stamped and sponged the same way the Sage shadow piece was treated. I cut the two top corner off to make it look like a tag, taped 1/2 chocolate scallop circle to the top (it was sponged and stamped with the Medaillon) and attached a piece of the Antique Brass Hodgepodge Hardware and sponged and stamped twill .

For the center image I stamped the horse in Chocolate Chip on Natural Ivory cardstock. I used the Coluzzle to cut it out, sponged the entire piece with Creamy Caramel and then just the edges first with Really Rust, then with Chocolate Chip ink. The cutter kit was used to rough up the edges and paper piercing was added.

Then it was layered first on a 1/8″ bigger sponged and distressed Really Rust circle and a 1/4″ bigger Chocolate Chip circle. I used the Corner rounder on the Chocolate Circle to add the scallops. I was very excited when the last scallop fit perfectly next to the first one.

I stamped the HB from It’s your Birthday in Chocolate Chip on Natural Ivory cardstock, cut around it and distressed the edges. I repeated that with Really Rust and Chocolate Chip cardstock and adhered it to the left side of my center piece. Then I added four Antique Brads on the bottom of the circle, two more on the left and right of the Really Rust strip and one in the center of a cut out and sponged star.

So that the saying would show up better, I cut a 3 1/2″ square of Natural Ivory.

It was sponged with Creamy Caramel and stamped it the same way  the Really Rust and Sage Shadow cardstock had been stamped.

Then it was sponged some more in Really Rust and Chocolate Chip. I added the saying from It’s Your birthday and taped the piece directly to the Chocolate chip card base.

Ooops, I forgot to mention that I stamped the outer edges of the first layer with All in a Row. But you all know that I have to use that set, right? LOL
