Triple Challenge card
Monday was BUSY and I didn’t get to stamp at all. I went to the dentist (cleaning…nothing else), mopped, dusted, vaccumed, baked cookies and made the kids favorite dinner. Then I got my latest SU order in and cut those stamps. By the time I was finished it was 7:00 p.m. I tried to do the Technique Lover challenge but I was just too pooped.
So Tuesday morning, I looked at the Color Challenge and went to work. I didn’t think I would like the color combo Emily picked for this week: Purely Pomegranate, Taken with Teal and Always Artichoke didn’t sound very appealing to me. Not in a million years would I have put those colors together. I did like the combo though, once I started playing. Thanks Emily, for pushing me out of my comfort zone.
Julee Tilman, from Poetic Artistry has started posting challenges on Monday. I loved her layout this week and thought I give it a try.
I already had a 4″ x 8″ piece of Always Artichoke folded and sponged. I used that one for my card base. Next I cut a 2″ x 3 3/4″ piece of Taken with Teal cardstock, stamped it with the background stamp from Merry & Bright, sponged the edges and distressed them with my Cutter kit.
I inked up the saying from the background stamp Happiness up in Black Stazon and stamped it on the left side of the Teal cardstock. Last I added a row of paper piercing to the top and bottom of the Teal cardstock.
Sunday I finally found the courage to ask Rick to cut up my wood block for the Background Stamp Happiness. I knew I wouldn’t use it much, if I didn’t mount those backgrounds separately. I love it this way. I don’t know why I was stressing out about cutting it up.
I cut down one of scraps of Purely Pomegranate cardstock to 2 1/8″ x 3″, added the stripes from the Happiness stamp in Purely Pomegranate, sponged and distressed the edges. I added a small black photo corner with three Pewter brads in it to the top right of it.
I stamped the diamond shaped border from Happiness in Black Stazon on Shimmery white, distressed the edges and added it to the lower part of my Pomegranate piece, added Pewter Hodgepodge Hardware and Ribbon from the Theater Ribbon Originals package.
The tree from Merry & Bright was stamped in Black Stazon on Shimmery White and punched out with the 1 3/8″ circle punch. I used my Prismacolor pencils with gamsol to color in the image, added Dazzling Diamond Glitter with my glue pen and taped it on a black scallop circle.
To finish off the card, I added more paper piercing, this time to the top right of my Artichoke card base. I stamped Holiday from Happy Everything in Black Stazon on Shimmery White cardstock. I also made a 3 3/4″ long scallop strip out of Shimmery White cardstock and taped it under my Taken with Teal piece.

Well that card turned out GREAT! I didn’t have much free time yesterday and I wasn’t sure of that colour combo either…so I skipped it. Love how yours turned out though! I’ll get some stamping done today!
WOW! I love what you did with that sketch AND the color combo. GREAT card!
I love how your card turned out! I really like how the colours look together, I could not have put them together like you did! Great layout too.
What a very cool layout!! Love the colors and one of these days when I have time (What’s that you ask?!), I’m going to do a challenge of yours!!
Beautiful card Beate! Could you also share the info on how you went about cutting the stamp?
Did you cut each individually? Ending up with 9 stamps? Did you need an extra wood block?
Thank you for sharing your artwork and your husbands handiwork!
Ilene B.
Great card! The colors blend so well with your layout! I just ordered that background stamp and am intending to have it cut also. I had my hubby cut the big block of the Festive Favorites set last winter and it worked out so well! It made it so much easier to use. Your work is such an inspiration to me! Thanks for giving me all those nudges!!!!
Fabulous! This is awesome!
What a beautiful card for the challenges! Way to incorporate them together!! This is gorgeous!
You remind me that I need to ‘take care’ of my Happiness & So Many Sayings sets. I will use them way more if I do what you did.
Oh, you brave girl! I’d be afraid the stamp would no longer fit. But that is so awesome! And your card is gorgeous. I love the scallop trim on the left. And I see you got to use your “new” Happiness stamp. Looks great.
WTG on 3 challenges! You just rock!!! I love all the details on this card.
That did come out great. As I was reading I was thinking…Hmmmmm that sound yucky, but it is rather nice together.
HUGS
I love this card! You have been inspiring me to use my HPH lately, thanks!! I’ve been hoarding it since last year!
So brave! I have had that stamp for 2 months and hardly ever use it but I’m too scared to cut it! Silly, I know:) Great job with the color challenge too!
Beautiful, as usual, Beate. I don’t know how you find the time to do all you do and still comment on other people’s creations. I’m hoping I get better at this as times go on.
Thank you for inspiring me!
So rich and gorgeous! The colors look great with the black thrown in.
Wow, a triple whammy. I must say you handled it well
I really love these colors together. Fantastic card, Beate!
I like this card Beate, the layout is great! I happen to like the colors together too - it seemed to work as your card is beautiful! *STAMPIN HUGS* Alex
Oh, I love this!!! Fabulous job with the colors!
Wow! I never would have used those colors, either. Looks great!!
Oh I LOVE it, Beate! You did wonders with the color challenge! I was like you today. . .I wasn’t able to stamp. I’m afraid I’ve lost my mojo!
*gasp*
You DID it! You CUT up that block! I am just pea green now … as I completely mounted mine at convention. I’ll know better now! I should have known better anyway … but it had to be done. Beate rocks!!
What a great idea! I’m definitely going to cut my wood blocks now! Wonderful card Beate. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! Trifecta! Great card. Good idea to cut that block — I know the idea was you could ink just one strip and use it, but what a pain! This will be much easier to use.
Glad to see you cut up that background stamp. Will have to watch how you use it. You might just change my opinion on this just like the photo corner punch.
This is truly beautiful. Wish my hubby was handy. He can work wonders with a computer, but can’t even use a hammer correctly. LOL!
What a clever clever Idea to cut that stamp up!!!!! Oh my goodness, I have been hesitating to order it, but I am sure that my Dad could cut my block for me!!!!! Adorable card too Beate!!!
