Happiness: Good Friends, family, summer at the beach, creating with rubber stamps

Featured Stamper: Michelle Zindorf

I was so excited when I saw that Michelle was the featured stamper for Sunday’s challenge. I had been itching to try her brayered backgrounds. I love her work!

Well…I did try the brayering and I think I still have to practise a lot. LOL

I cased this gorgeous card of hers. Make sure to browse her SCS gallery. Be ready to ooohhh and aaahhh and put on a jaw guard so you don’t hurt yourself when it keeps falling down on the table. LOL

oh-so-lovely-fs32-flower-th.jpg

I started with a 2 3/4″ x 4″ piece of Whisper White cardstock and first brayered Ballet Blue on the top, the Wild Wasabi on the bottom.

Once it was dry I added the flower from Oh So Lovely all over the cardstock in Black Stazon.

On the Wasabi part, I added another flower to make it look almost like bushes (Plus…Michelle had it on her card, so I NEEDED it).  I also added the background stamp from that set all over the Wild Wasabi portion.

Next I colored in the image with Blender pen and Wild Wasabi and Purely Pomegranate reinker. Once that dried I went over it again to add some darker pieces, and used my white watercolor pencil to highlight other pieces.

I punched out the corners with the ticket corner punch and layered it on a 1/4″ bigger piece of Basic Black cardstock. I added a small black photo corner on the top right and placed silver brads it and the other three corners. Then I wrapped double stitched Purely Pomegranate Ribbon around it, tied it in a knot and slipped my tag underneath.

For the tag, I stamped the thank you from Think Happy Thoughts on whisper white cardstock and punched it out with the 1 1/4″ circle punch. I sponged Wild Wasabi all over with a sponge dauber and layered it on a 1 3/8″ black circle. For the center, I stamped the flower in Black Stazon on Whisper white again, punched it out with the 3/4″ circle punch, added Ballet Blue ink all over with a sponge dauber and then colored it in the same way as the main image.

Inspiration Challenge

I think the Limited Supplies challenges on Friday and the Inspiration challenges on Saturday stretch my creativity the most. They always push me out of my comfort zone.

I didn’t get to finish this card on Saturday. Rick, Rebecca and I first went to the beach. The water was so clear and the perfect temperature. Gorgeous! Too bad there were some pesty fly that bit you as soon as you layed down.  Then we went to eat at the Outback. We came back just in time to be home for the boys. They were at a birthday party all afternoon.

In the evening Rick and I watched the Painted Veil. I had never heard about this movie before. I liked it. Edward Norton sure knows how to act!

So Sunday in the afternoon, after all the SCS emails were answered and the newsletter prepped, I got to finish my card.

The inspiration piece this time was some funky dinnerware. You can find the challenge here.

This card has a lot of layers and cutting, but not a lot of stamping.

I started with writing down the color combo and shapes I wanted to incoorporate into this card:

Color combo: Basic Black, Tempting Turquoise, Old Olive and Whisper White

Shapes: Circles, Paisley/tear drop shape and wavy lines

fundamental-phrases-modern.jpg

I started out with a 4 1/4″ x 8 1/2″ piece of black cardstock, folded in half for my card base.

I cut the open ends with my scissors into a wavy edge.

Next I cut a 4″ x 4 1/4″ piece of Tempting Turquoise cardstock, lined it up with the wavy line and cut it’s edge to match the waves of the black card. I did the same with a 3 3/4″ x 4 1/4″ piece of Old Olive.

I then cut both layers down to make perfect layers and ticket corner punched the two straight corners.

I used my coluzzle to cut those bigger circles and free hand cut the paisley shape. The big circle and the Paisley shape are overlayed with a piece of acetate and stamped on with Black Stazon and Fundamental Phrases.

The smaller circles are punched with 1/2″ and 1/4″ circle punches. I added Black, Old Olive and Tempting Turquoise brads and some paper piercing to finish of the card.
