Horse Reflections

Today’s tutorial on Splitcoast is Reflection technique.  This super simple technique allows you to create reflection/mirror images. I made this card when I wrote the tutorial.

When in doubt, I always reach for my old trusted Chocolate Chip as card base.

This time was no different. I started out with a 4 1/4″ x 8 1/2″ piece of Chocolate chip that was folded in half and sponged around the edges.

Next is a 4″ square of bordering blue that was stamped with the medaillon as well as paisley and star from the Wanted stamp set. I distressed the edges with the cutter kit and sponged around them first in Bordering Blue, then in Chocolate Chip.

I taped it to my card base and added Faux Stitching with the All in the Row Argyle stamp.

Next is a 3 1/8″ x 3 1/2″ piece of Old Olive stamped with the stripes from Happiness in Old Olive. The edges were distressed and first sponged in Old Olive, then with Chocolate Chip.

For the main panel, I stamped the horse in Chocolate Chip on Natural Ivory cardstock. I inked it up again, stamped it on my acetate, flipped that over, lined it up with my solid horse, layed the acetate down and rubbed over it to transfer the image.

Next I doodled the grass line with my brown micron pen and colored it with Aqua painter and Old Olive. I colored old olive really softly under it, to make it look like reflection and added Bordering Blue scribble lines around the reflected horse to simulate water.

I cut that piece of cardstock down to 2 3/8″ x 2 3/4″. I cut the reflected horses head of on purpose, to keep the main focus on the “real” horse. I punched the corners with the ticket corner punch and sponged around the edges with Bordering Blue softly.

The stamped piece was layered on a 1/4″ bigger chocolate chip cardstock piece that was distressed and sponged. I added Pewter Brads to the corners.

For the saying I used Good Luck from Fundamental Phrases. I stamped it with Chocolate Chip on Bordering Blue cardstock and punched it out with my small oval punch. It was sponged with Bordering Blue and just a hint of Chocolate chip and layered on a sponged 1″ Old Olive circle. Both those punchouts were centered on a Chocolate Chip Designer label punchout that was stamped with the medaillon and sponged around the edges.  I added two more Pewter brads and was done.

Easy Peasy!

Beautiful card!!! I am so stunned by the reflection and how you achieved it, I can’t wait to try it. I tried this once using cardstock, it was okay…but not half as good as yours! TFS.
