Tutorial on SCS - Watercoloring with Markers

Julie Buhler wrote todays tutorial for Splitcoaststampers. Julie is a very talented artist and has a great blog with a lot of tutorials and helpful hints.

This is my first card ever colored with Markers, Aqua Painter and Watercolor paper. It was FUN! If you have watercolor paper at home, make sure to try it out!

I made this card while it was dark out with regular lighting.

I don’t have an Ott-Lite yet. So if the colors are off or not that great….let’s blame it on that, allright? LOL

I resisted Bloomin’ Beautiful for the longest time. I really didnt’ think I needed this set. Well…on my last order I caved and got it anyway.

I stamped the image with Black Stazon on watercolor paper and let dry. Because I didn’t have a plan for the card yet, I stamped it a bit off and couldn’t quite center it in the circle I decided to cut with my Coluzzle. But since it was just my trial piece (or so I thought), I kept on going.

I colored the flowers first with my Cameo Coral Marker, blended the color with my Aqua Painter and then added darker ink with my Ruby Red Marker. For the leaves I first used Certainly Celery, then Old Olive, for the pot Creamy Caramel, then Close to Cocoa. For around the pot I first used Bashful Blue. Gag…that didn’t look too good. Then I went over it with More Mustard. What can I say….It was late and I didn’t want to start over (= Just call me lazy.).

The image was layered on a Chocolate chip scallop made with Nestabilities. I know, I know…I will write something up about those soon. I promise. I am getting a lot of questions about them. Let’s just say for now I LOVE them and I can’t decide for you which ones to get. I LOVE all my oval, circle, rectangles and squares.

The card base is a 5 1/2″ x 11″ piece of Ruby Red, folded in half and sponged in the front. The next two layers are 4 3/4″ square of Old Olive Prints Designer Paper and a sponged and distressed 1/4″ bigger piece of Chocolate Chip. The edges were paper pierced and sanded with the sanding block. 5/8″ rose grosgrain ribbon was tied around both layers on the right and the image was mounted over it with dimensionals.

The sentiment is from the same set, stamped in Black Stazon on watercolor paper. It was punched out with the large oval punch.  Next I stamped the definition stamp from the set in More Mustard over the sentiment, blended the colors with the Aqua Painter, sponged the edges with Ruby Red and overstamped it all again with the definition stamp in More Mustard. It was taped partly over the image circle and secured with a bookplate from the Aged Copper Hodgepodge hardware kit.

Okay…I know it’s not the best sample, but I just didn’t have more time to play yesterday. I am still trying to catch up from being gone on vacation and slacking because Rick was home. Hopefully soon I am back to my organized self, showing off challenge cards made for SCS challenges.

Personal Note:
The doctor said Lucas eye was because of allergies. No pink eye.  The swelling is completely gone this morning. Dang…I should have taken a picture of it yesterday!

The appointment we got on base was close to Rebecca’s dental appointment (no others available). So after we finally got the medication (if you are military, you know what I mean) we rushed over to the dentist. Only five minutes late they still saw us.

Being in the dental chair again freaked Rebecca out a bit and she cried almost through the whole thing. I tell you, sometimes I wish I would drink alcohol! But…we made it. The teeth are out and she is feeling fine. Lets do that again in two weeks when two more teeth are being pulled.
