Today’s tutorial on SCS is Stained Glass with Vellum.
There are other ways to create a Stained Glass look. I will create another tutorial in a few weeks for a variation with Acetate and Glitter.
The card base is a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Chocolate Chip cardstock. The edges of the card front were sponged with chocolate ink to make it richer looking.
The 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Ski Slope Designer Paper was adhered to the base. The edges were paper pierced and sanded with a sanding block.
The frame was cut with the Top Notes Bigz Die Big Shot template out of Chocolate Chip. It was stamped with the branch from A Cardinal Christmas, the edges were sponged.
I cut an oval from Riding Hood Red cardstock with the Coluzzle. Again I stamped the edges of the oval with the branch, this time with Riding Hood Red. I sponged the edges, taped the oval to the Chocolate Top Note and cut another smaller oval through both layers. I paper pierced the oval.
Next I stamped the Cardinal in Black Craft ink on Vellum Paper and embossed it with Clear Embossing Powder. The image was colored with Ruby Red, Old Olive, Close to Cocoa, More Mustard and Pumpkin Pie markers on the other side of the vellum.
The sentiment was stamped in Chocolate Chip on Very Vanilla cardstock punched out with the large oval punch. I taped it to a scrap piece of Riding Hood Red and cut around it. It was taped to the bottom left of the frame. I clipped a Mini Library clip on it and tied Red Taffeta Ribbon on it.
I got another busy day, heck rest of the week ahead of me. I hope I get to stamp so I have something to post for you every day. Can’t promise it though.

Beautiful card, the brown really showcases the gorgeous cardinal and I love the red oval frame too. Gotta go call my demo, I now have to have that die cut!

What a great Christmas card! It looks very cool 🙂 I’ve sort of done this technique before, although I embossed in white on vellum before coloring on the backside, instead of stamping with a dark color. It looks great!

Hi Beate: Bam! This is a perfect layout and card. Adore all the touches (sand block on the edges, paper piercing, the clip with ribbon) and the stained glass technique is lovely. I plan to give it a try. How did you get your pierces so symmetrical on the oval?

You can also stamp on a transparency (emboss) and color that with your copics. I demoed that at a stamping convention for one of the vendors.

Beate, this is absolutely gorgeous; I don’t have the new cardinal set, but I still have the old one that I can use. I showed it to a customer and she wants half of her Christmas cards made like this. As I look at it, it looks “black” instead of brown – so I think I’ll do it in black. Beautiful card! TFS
