First thing I did with the sketch was flip it. Isn’t it funny? I create the sketches only to change them right away. I am such a dork!

 winterpostshimmeryskaterwsc.jpg

My card base is a 4 1/4″ x 8 1/2″ piece of Soft Suede cardstock folded in half. Next comes a 3 15/16″ square of Real Red Cardstock followed a 3 3/4″ square of Whisper White. The patterned paper is from the Christmas Cocoa Specialty Paper Pack. The long strip on the right measures 1 5/8″ x 3 1/2″, the short one on the bottom 1 3/8″ x 1 7/8″. The circle was cut with Circle Nestabilities.

The skaters from the stamp set Winter Post were inked first with Versamark, then with Soft Suede Classic ink. After stamping the image on the designer paper circle, I embossed them with clear embossing powder and added Shimmery Paint over it with a paint brush. The paint was a bit too thick (dark), so I wiped excess of with my fingers.

I added faux stitching to the long strip with my paper piercing tools and Soft Suede Marker and taped three circles cut with the Window word punch on the top right. Three clear Rhinestone Brads were added in the center. Red Polka Dotted Ribbon was tied around the layers to cover the ending of the smaller designer paper strip.

The sentiment is from the hostess set Holiday’s Best. It was stamped in Soft Suede, punched out with the small oval punch and taped under the ribbon knot. The metal embellishment is from the Styled Silver Hodgepodge Hardware kit.

On the card inside is a 3 15/16″ piece of Whisper White cardstock. On the left is a 1 3/8″ x 3 3/4″ strip of the Christmas Cocoa Specialty Paper. I cut out a half oval with my large oval punch and adhered a Real Red stamped version of the sentiment (punched out with the small oval punch) into that dent.

Stampin’ Up! update:

I had a chance to talk to members of the compliance office of Stampin’ Up! yesterday. Because I am an Splitcoast employee, I will be able to write tutorials and product reviews for/with non Stampin’ Up! product and stay a demonstrator.

I will however have to alter my blog. I won’t be able to link to places where you can buy non Stampin’ Up! product anymore. I will be able to keep everyone on my blog roll, just have to take down my store links. I will be able to post links to SCS (tutorials and challenges), since Splitcoast doesn’t sell anything there directly.

I feel bad that I won’t be able to share anymore where I bought Nestabilities or gorgeous ribbon that Stampin’ Up! unfortunately doesn’t carry, but I will be able to leave my links in my older posts…..so if you search Nestabilities with my search engine on my blog, you will find those and with those.

I have decided to see how this all plays out and stay a demonstrator for now. If I feel too confined by the agreement, I might change my mind later on. But I love the products and I really enjoy being the upline to my downline. Time will tell.

Have a great weekend! Hugs and smiles

  1. This is gorgeous Beate! Maybe you should always “flip” your sketch 90 degrees before you post it and no one will ever know you flipped it. LOL! Just kidding of course. I love the sketch and can’t wait to play along.

  2. So glad that this worked out and I hope that it all goes well and smoothly for you!!!!! Hugs! 🙂

  3. Oh, Beate, you crack me up! 😉 I LOVE the sketch flipped, and this card turned out so beautifully!

  4. Not a dork at all! I was going to flip the sketch as well, but went back to the original after much playing.
Your card is a beautiful scene. Your work always wow’s me!
Thanks for your SU! update. I’ve been thinking about you. HUGS!

  5. Lovely card, as usual!!
I’m SO happy you’ve had a chance to re-think your decision once the clarification came out about the new IDA. I’m hoping that more of our rock star demonstrators think with a clear head and not act too quickly. You do such beautiful work, SU or not!

  6. This is just so beautiful, Beate! I love the old fashioned look to this card…the papers are so wonderful and the ribbon is the perfect finishing touch!!

  10. Beate your Christmas card is wonderful and I can’t wait to play along with the sketch!
I’m so glad to hear that you are staying with Stampin’ Up and are able to continue your work with SCS!

  11. That is beautiful Beate!

  12. Gorgeous card! I love the turned sketch.

  13. Well I am glad SU! is allowing you to remain a demonstrator even while working for SCS! They would be sorry to lose you! Great news!

  14. Awesome card, awesome talent — awesome news about SU and you. Enjoy the Cinn. regional!

  15. hi beate! the card is beautiful, as yours always are! so glad that you have decided to give the new ida rules a try. yours is one of my favorite su blogs and one of the first thing i thought about when reading the new rules was “oh no! who is going to drop, please not one my favorites!” im a demo too, but your blog is very inspirational for me! thank you!

  16. Gorgeous card & technique, Beate. Glad to hear things may work out for the best between you and SU. Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for the fun sketch, I loved it!

  17. Beautiful card. I am glad that you were able to work things out with SU. I guess they thought you were too important to them. But, it is a shame that they don’t consider that with all of their demos.
I am sure my little SU isn’t worth it for them to make an exception.

  18. Beautiful card. Happy that you will remain an SU demo for now. You’re a fabulous stamper and SU should be grateful that you use their products!

  19. Oh yeay!!! I am so glad things are working out!
Your comment on the sketches cracks me up… This is absolutly lovely!! I love how you use that set, and I am soo looking forward to getting that DP! 🙂

  20. I am happy that things look as if you can do both. I especially feel good for you.

  21. Beate, your card is fabulous as always, and hey, it’s your sketch- I love it flipped!
I am SO glad that you’ve decided to stay with SU. You really are a cheerleader for them – and an inspiration for all of us.

  22. So glad to hear that you’ll be staying on with Stampin’ Up! for now. Your creations are the reason why I’ve purchased half the stamp sets I own. LOL!

  23. Beate,
I too am having issues with the new IDA. I will also continue for now, but the future is quite shaky for me as I am not sure I agree with the guidelines either. My main problem is that if I use a stamp from another company (which I do sometimes) I cant share where I obtained it or who made it. Grrrrr. Have a great day and HUGS

  24. Beate, your card is gorgeous – flipped sketch or not, LOL!! I am so glad you are staying on with SU! – I too made the decision to stay, and had to give up my DT work and take off the links to my blog….I will wait and see how this plays for me – I love lots of products but I too feel an obligation to my customers and downline….this is a tough time for all of us right now!! HUGS!!!! *STAMPIN HUGS* Alex

  25. I am so happy to hear that you are staying on as a demo. I hope this inspires others to realize that the new IDA isn’t evil and out to get them.

  26. You are not a dork…and your card is beautiful, Beate!! I love the layout, images, and pretty papers!! Such pretty embellishments too!!

So glad things are working out with you and SU!! 🙂

  27. Beate I am so happy for you that you were able to work things out with SU! This has been a tough week all around. HUGS! And your card is beautiful!

  28. Can you see me smiling? Well I am!
I am so glad that you are going to continue to be a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator. I mean heck anyone with any computer knowledge can find stuff on their own without links to help them…right?
    Hugs,
    Di

  29. Beate,
I am selfish enough to be glad that you are staying a demonstrator. You may not realize the impact you have on people like me who don’t have an active upline to inspire them. Your patient style of teaching and wonderful desgins make me believe that I can go on to become a better demonstrator.
    Thanks,
    Donna

  30. love this card has a vintage feel

  31. So glad SU is willing to work with you Beate! So smart of them to see that SCS is very good for their business in the long run.

  32. Your card is beautiful, love the colors and all the details, the faux stitching is gorgeous, I need to get that technique working for me. Love your work, you are an inspiration to many.

  33. Such a beautiful card Beate, no matter how the sketch was “supposed to” be! 🙂 And I’m so glad you’re able to remain a demo for now – it made me very sad to think of you having to make such a tough decision!

  34. Your work is such an inspiration to so many! Thank you for all you do. I’m sorry SU has put some of us in an agonizing position – so sad.

  35. I am thrilled you will be able to remain a demo and stay at SCS. Stampin Up does not realize your tutorials and samples inspire us to buy more of SU. I tried to convey that in an email to them early 9/1 morning.

  36. LOL you are not a dork, silly girl! I love your card…it’s so pretty! I’m glad you were able to stay a demo and keep on with SCS!

  37. Wow, it is absolutely beautiful.

  38. Beate,

So happy that this agreement was reached with SU. That is awesome news. I love your work and I especially appreciate the SU cards you make. Sometimes it’s hard to find really quality cards out there, and this latest post does NOT disappoint!

Thanks so very much for all of the inspiration you provide to the stamping community!!

  39. I am beyond thrilled that you can continue your role as SCS and still remain a demonstrator! I am thankful for your grace and class in considering your demonstrator status. Thank you for all that you do to inspire us!

  40. This card is gorgeous!!! Thanks for the sketch.

  41. I just LOVE that you called yourself a “dork”. LOL!
I love your cards, love your posts.
    Blessings

  42. I’m happy to hear of your decision regarding SU! Hope that still means you’ll be in Cincinnati this weekend!! Hugs!

  43. So glad to hear you are staying as a demo for now – how short-sighted of SU -if they loose someone as popular and talented as you!

  44. You are one of the biggest influences on my own Stampin’ Up! business and success. Your work is always impeccable, creative and beautifully explained. I’m thrilled that you are going to continue with Stampin’ Up and keep your SCS gig, too! As you can see from all the comments, you are a mentor to so many and do magic with the SU products.

    Hugs, Mary

  45. I’m so happy you can stay a demo! I love your work – very inspiring! Just spent a few days at the beach in Destin – thought of you.

  46. I am so glad to hear you are giving SU a chance! I have been avoiding the chat threads like the plague because of all the negativity, but I had to come and see if you were sticking around!

I love your work, and I am glad to know you will still be representing SU in some way. . .
